Pair: Private W. Raymond, 5th Lancers, who served with the Camel Corps in the Sudan and was mortally wounded at the Battle of Abu Klea, 17 January 1885

W. Raymond was mortally wounded at the Battle of Abu Klea on 17 January 1885, and died of his wounds two days later.

Two officers and 32 other ranks of the 5th Lancers fought at the battle of Abu Klea on 17 January 1885. Major Carmichael and six men were killed or died of wounds, whilst Lieutenant Costello and two men were wounded in the action.
