The K.C.M.G. set of insignia attributed to Sir Courtenay Forbes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Lima

The Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, K.C.M.G. Knight Commander’s set of insignia, by Garrard, London, comprising neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel; star, silver, with gold and enamel appliqué centre, and gold retaining pin, with neck riband, in slightly damaged case of issue, crown suspension sometime re-fixed to badge and with small chips to both centres, otherwise good very fine (2) £800-£1,200

Sir Victor Courtenay Walter Forbes was born on 29 January 1889, and was educated at Eton and University College, London. He entered the Foreign Office in 1913, was advanced First Secretary in 1924, and served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Peru from 1934-44, and then Ambassador in Peru from 1944 until his retirement in December 1945. He subsequently held the position of Managing Director of the Beauship Trading and Shipping Company, and died on 26 January 1958.
