Walter Clement Harriott was born at Seaford, West Sussex, on 31 March 1890, and joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in December 1908. He was mobilised on 22 August 1914, and joined the Howe Battalion R.N.D., serving in Belgium in 1914 and afterwards at Gallipoli, where he was seriously wounded in the hand on 14 May 1915, and invalided to England in early 1916. He was drafted to the Hood Battalion for service with the B.E.F. and was reported missing, presumed killed in action at Arras on 23 April 1917. He is commemorated by name on the Arras Memorial.
