Edward Castellano (also listed as ‘Castellane’) was born in Mile End, London, in January 1853. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in 1869, and advanced to Able Seaman in January 1873. Castellano’s service included with H.M.S. Shah, August 1876 - September 1879, during which time he advanced to Leading Seaman. He was ‘Invalided. Discharged to Shore’, as Petty Officer 1st Class in July 1881.
