(Civil) Member’s 1st type breast badge, silver, hallmarks for London 1917; The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Serving Brother’s breast badge, silver and enamel; India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (6858 Color Sergt. R. J. Hilliar, 3d Bn. Rif. Bde.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (6858 Clr.-Serjt. R. J. Hilliar. Rifle Brigade); Voluntary Medical Services Medal, with 2 additional award bars (Robert J. Hilliar); together with the recipient’s British Red Cross Society War Service Medal 1914-18, with integral top riband bar, and named card box of issue, mounted court-style for display purposes, very fine or better (6) £400-£500

London Gazette 7 June 1918: ‘Robert James Hilliar, Esq., in charge of Red Cross Ambulance and Transport Work, Worcestershire.’

Robert James Hilliar served with the 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, in India as Colour Sergeant of ‘C’ Company, and was appointed Sergeant-Major of the Mounted Infantry School, Fatihgarh, on 12 September 1901. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 10 February 1903.
