Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (4719. Pte. J. Drewett, 3rd Rifle Bde.) good very fine £80-120

Provenance: DNW, April 2003.

James Drewett was born in Bronham, Newburn, Berkshire in 1833 and attested for the 1st Battalion, 60th Foot in 1855. He served with them during the Indian Mutiny (Medal without clasp). In 1860 he transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade and served with them during the Ashantee War of 1873-74 (Medal with clasp). He transferred to the 3rd Battalion in 1874 (awarded L.S. & G.C. in August 1876). Drewett was discharged at his own request in 1877.
