William Haslett was appointed Ensign in the 13th Light Infantry on 18 August 1854, and promoted to Lieutenant on 26 June 1855. He served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol from 3 September 1855 (medal and Clasp). Also in the Indian campaign of 1858, and was present with the Sarun Field Force at the actions of Amorah and the taking of Nuggur (Medal).
