Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (223 Pte. J. Mc.Dermitt. 2/High: L.I.) heavy pitting, minor edge bruising, nearly very fine £140-180

James McDermitt was born in 1861 and attested for the 2nd Brigade at Edinburgh on 5 August 1880, whilst serving in the Edinburgh Artillery Militia. Posted to the Border Regiment on 1 July 1881, he transferred to the Highland Light Infantry the following month, and served with them in Egypt from 8 August to 1 October 1882, being wounded at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir on 13 September 1882. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 January 1886, and was discharged on 4 August 1892, after 12 years’ service.
