Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Sebastopol (Captn. I. S. Howard 44th. Regt.) contemporarily engraved naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, British issue, unnamed as issued, unofficial rivets between second and third clasps, as issued, light contact marks, good very fine (2) £400-500

John Stanley Howard was commissioned Ensign in the 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot on 13 October 1843, and was promoted Lieutenant by purchase on 25 July 1845, and Captain on 31 January 1851. He served with the Regiment in Malta and Gibraltar, before arriving in the Crimea on 14 September 1854 on the transport ship Tynemouth. He served throughout the Crimean War, and is briefly mentioned in Fanny Duberley’s book.

Approximately 41 Balaklava clasps to the 44th Foot.
