Samuel Barton was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and attested for the Grenadier Guards at Chipping Wycombe, in October 1848. He was in ‘Prison by Civil Power’ in 1851, prior to serving with the Regiment in the Crimea, February 1854 - July 1856. He was discharged 5 November 1858, having served 10 years with the Colours.
