Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, no clasp (913. Pte. T. Shields. 2/Durh: L.I.) light pitting, edge bruise and two edge nicks, nearly very fine £70-90

Thomas Shields was born in 1864 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, and attested for the Durham Light Infantry at Barnard Castle, Co. Durham on 11 June 1883. He served with the 2nd Battalion in Egypt and the Sudan from 15 February 1885 until 10 January 1887, before returning home and transferring to the Army Reserve on 10 June 1890. He was discharged five years later on 10 June 1895, after 12 years’ service.
