Percy George Webster was born on 2 April 1880 in Warwick, and attested for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment at Birmingham on 28 August 1894. Appointed a Bandsman on 1 May 1897, he was promoted Corporal on 1 April 1902, and Sergeant on 28 July 1905, being appointed a Sergeant-Drummer five years later on 14 March 1910. Awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1916, he served during the Great War with the 10th Battalion as part of the British Expeditionary Force in France from 7 September 1917, and received a mild wound to the left hip on 24 March 1918. Returning home a week later on 1 April, he was discharged on 16 September 1918 after 24 years and 20 days’ service.

John William Bolton was born in 1874 in Bolton, Lancashire, and attested for the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on 4 January 1893. He served with the Regiment in South Africa from 11 February 1899 until 4 May 1900 (entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with Defence of Kimberley clasp). Appointed a Drummer on 7 May 1903, he transferred to the East Lancashire Regiment on 10 August of that year, and was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a Gratuity of £5, per Army Order 280 of October 1911. He was discharged on 3 January 1914, after 21 years’ service. Embodied for service during the Great War on 5 August 1914, he was discharged as medically unfit on 19 August 1914.
