Berkshire Archery, a silver ‘cup’ in two halves, one half with grease insert, named (Tuesday September 23 1851, Distance 100 Yds, Shafts 216, Hits 96, Score 332, Won by H. Hippisley). Very fine; with chain and ‘Albert’ attachment £60-80

Sold with a relating letter from an un-named correspondent on Royal Toxophilite Society headed paper to that body’s then secretary, Charles Bertram Edwards, 5 October 1965, on which Edwards has drafted a reply to the effect that Henry Hippisley was elected to the Society in 1845 and the prize was probably awarded at a private members’ archery tournament, and a copy photograph of the recipient.
