No. 4 Special Company formed part of the Special (or Gas) Brigade, R.E. Most Companies discharged gas from cylinders, but No. 1 to 4 Companies were equipped with Stokes Mortars which fired a shell containing gas.

Sold with an original congratulatory letter from General Alymer Hunter-Weston, C.O. of VIII Army Corps, which cites the recipient’s gallantry on the 27 June 1918.
