F. R. Wray was a Private in the 5th London Regiment and entered the French/ Flanders theatre of war on 4.11.1914. He was commissioned into the Kent Fortress Engineers on 21.5.1915 and attained the rank of Captain in the Royal Engineers by the end of the War. He was recalled to the Service in the Second World War, serving as a Temporary Major and being awarded the M.B.E.
