John Warr was born and enlisted at Sturminster Newton, Dorset. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 1 July 1916 at Beaumont Hamel on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The battalion suffered the loss of seven officers and 156 other ranks killed in this action.
