Monarch); Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (successful) (Samuel Osborne, R.N., 12th April 1913) contact wear and edge bruising, generally very fine and better (6) £400-450

Samuel Osborne was awarded the Royal Humane Society’s Medal for the following deed (Case No. 39862 refers):

‘At 11.20 a.m. on 12 April 1913, a man fell overboard from the torpedo net-roll on H.M.S.
Monarch into the harbour at Portsmouth, there being a strong tide and very cold. Samuel Osborne and Frank Brading jumped from the ship and supported him till they were picked up.’
