D.C.M. London Gazette 12 March 1919: ‘During the operations near Hooge, on 28th September, 1918, when his company was the leading company of the attack, he led his men with great coolness and courage, and kept complete control. On the 30th, near Gheluwe, he took command of his platoon when the platoon sergeant was wounded, and the success of the company was undoubtedly due to his gallantry and initiative, he and his platoon capturing four farms defended by machine guns and snipers. Throughout he set a fine example to all ranks.’
Croix de Guerre
London Gazette 19 June 1919.

Corporal Chapman was an original member of the 1st Battalion who landed on 25th May, 1915, at Gallipoli, and was one of only 43 survivors from 1915 to march into Germany at the end of the war.
