Daniel Burgess was born at Chatham, Kent on 6 May 1863. He attested as a Drummer at Chatham on 9 July 1878 in No 9 Company. Whilst serving aboard H.M.S. LORD WARDEN (1880-81) received advancement to Private R.M. on 6 October 1881. A member of the “Mediterranean Battalion” from 29 June 1882 until 23 October 1882, and as a Corporal (30 December 1882) a member of the “R.M. Battalion, Egypt” from 10 February 1884 until 8 May 1885. Demoted to Private on 4 March 1885. Subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships BOSCAWEN (1888-90) and GARNET (1890-93) and died, whilst at Plymouth, of pneumonia on 26 June 1893. He was never awarded a L.S. & G.C. medal.
