Andrew S. Pringle was born on 15 April 1851. First entered as a Naval Cadet on 5 September 1865 aboard H.M.S. BRTTANNIA, passing to CHARYBDIS in December 1866 with promotion to Midshipman on 20 June 1867. Appointed to SATELLITE September 1869 followed by two years aboard MINOTAUR commencing December 1870, with promotion to Sub Lieutenant on 4 July 1872. He served aboard H.M.S. ACTIVE from 24 May 1874 until 10 August 1875, when he was re-appointed to H.M.S. FLORA where he was promoted to Lieutenant on 13 October 1876. He was never employed as a Lieutenant, remaining on half-pay until retired on 9 June 1885 and died soon afterwards.
