Robert Davis, assistant harbour master, at great personal risk, rescued Patrick Connell from drowning in Howth Harbour, on the 1st September, 1888.

Born Strangford, Co. Down, Ireland on 23 March 1840. First entered as an "Ord" aboard H.M.S. AJAX on 31 May 1858, and was drafted to H.M.S. MERSEY (1859-62). Rejoined AJAX as an Able Seaman in September 1862 until March 1864, subsequently serving aboard ROYAL GEORGE (1864-66) prior to joining H.M.S. BARRACOUTA on 15 March 1866, where he was advanced to Leading Seaman in August 1867, and to Captain's Coxswain in July 1868 and paid off in April 1870. He then served aboard H.M. Ships BLACK PRINCE (1870-72), THALIA (1872-73), RINGDOVE from February 1873 as Captain's Coxswain and was made an Acting Ship's Cook in October 1876 prior to being paid off in April 1877. His last vessel was REVENGE as a P.O. lst Class from which he was pensioned to shore on 5 July 1878.
