In Lean’s Navy List 1883, Pritchard’s War Services are stated as ‘..Surgeon of RATTLER, present at the attack on, and defeat of Pirates near Tyloo, China 1855; honourably mentioned (China Medal)..’ This entry is an example of occasional inaccuracies in the biographies supplied by officers to the editor of the Navy List. The only mention of Surgeon Pritchard in the Gazetted dispatch was as the Surgeon signing the Killed and Wounded list! He was unemployed during the period of the 2nd China War, retiring as Staff Surgeon in 1870.
