William Learmount was killed in action on 20 December 1940, whilst Master of the S.S. Carlton when she was torpedoed and then sunk by gunfire by the Italian Submarine Calvi. He along with 28 other officers and men lost their lives either during this action, or subsequently as a result of exposure. Sold with additional copied research, including a picture of recipient.
