Three: Sergeant (Navigator) S. G. Twitchin, No. 22 Squadron, Royal Air Force

1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal; together with four photographs of recipient; and two letters addressed to recipient’s sister, advising her that her brother was reported missing on 10 September 1940 and offering condolences, extremely fine (3) £120-150

Sydney George Twitchin was the Navigator of a Beaufort on 6 June 1940 which suffered an engine failure and crashed at Ashington, Northumberland. Sergeant Twitchen and one other man bailed out and were unhurt, two other men did not jump and were both killed.

On 10 September 1940 when on a bombing mission to Boulogne, his aircraft failed to return, and he was subsequently presumed to have been killed on this date. Sold with 13 pages copied from the Squadron Operations Book.
