Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, no clasp (P. Brown, 2 Captn. M. Top, H.M.S. Arab) light pitting from star, otherwise very fine £70-90

Philip Brown was born in Bigbury, Devon, on 13 January 1853. First entered as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. Volage (1869-72) on 8 July 1869, advanced to Boy 1st Class during July 1870 and to Ord in August 1871. Subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships Royal Adelaide (1872-74), Valiant where he was advanced to A.B. in April 1875, Cambridge (1875-77) and Agincourt (1877-79). He was then drafted to Arab (1881-85) earning this Soudan award. His last two Commissions were aboard H.M. Ships Griffon (1887-88) and Triumph (1890-91). He was pensioned to shore on 2 March 1891.
