MILITARY GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1814, 6 clasps, Corunna, Salamanca, Vittoria, St. Sebastian, Nivelle, Nive (Edwd. Gichard, Lieut., 4th Foot) good very fine

Lieutenant Edward Gichard served with the 4th Foot at the capture of Copenhagen in 1807 and on the expedition to Sweden in 1808. Subsequently in Portugal, under Sir John Moore, including the advance into Spain, followed by the retreat to, and battle of Corunna. Served in the expedition to Walcheren in 1809 and later in the Peninsula campaigns of 1812, 1813 and 1814, including the reduction of the forts at Salamanca, the battle of Salamanca, the capture of Madrid, the siege of Burgos, the action at Villa Murial where he was slightly wounded, the battle of Vittoria, the siege and capture of San Sebastian, the attack upon the heights after crossing the Bidassoa, the battles of Nivelle and Nive, in which latter battle he was severely wounded in the left thigh by a musket shot. He was transferred to Half Pay in April 1816, as a result of his wounds, and died early in 1857.
