John Clarke was born in Rathory, Co. Louth and enlisted at Dundalk. Serving in the Irish Guards, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 17 August 1915. Serving with No. 2 Company, 2nd Battalion Irish Guards, he was killed in action on 13 September 1916. He was buried in the Guards’ Cemetery at Lesboeufs. He was the son of Edward and Bridget Clarke, of Rathory, Ardee, Co. Louth. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
