Tibet 1903-04, 1 clasp, Gyantse (Captn. G. L. S. Ward, 8th Gurkha Rifles) slight edge bruise, nearly extremely fine £1000-1200

George Louis Street Ward was born on 2 April 1869. Commissioned on 3 May 1890. In April 1892 appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the 44th Gurkha Rifles Regiment of Bengal Infantry; appointed Wing Officer in May 1893. In December 1894 he was appointed Staff Officer at Manipur and Senior Staff Officer in January 1899 at Kohima. Promoted to Captain in May 1901. Appointed Double Company Commander in the 8th Gurkha Rifles in November 1900; advanced to Major in May 1908 before retiring in May 1913.

Served on the N.E. Frontier of India, Lushai, 1892 and the N.E. Frontier of India, Abor Expedition, 1894. In the Tibet Expedition, 1903-04, he was present at the action at Niani, 26 June 1904; in the operations at and around Gyantse, 5 May-6 July 1904, and on the march to Llassa, 14 July-3 August 1904 (Medal with clasp). A fellow officer of the 8th Gurkha Rifles - Lieutenant John Duncan Grant, was awarded the V.C. for his exceptional bravery in the storming of the Gyantse Jong, 6 July 1904.
