Three: Private E. Bailey, East Lancashire Regiment

Edward Bailey was born in Preston, Lancashire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the East Lancashire Regiment at Preston on 31 August 1904, aged 22 years. After service in India he was transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1908. Recalled to the Colours in August 1914, he first entered the France/Flanders theatre of war with the 1st Battalion on 22 August 1914. He served in France, 22 August-16 November 1914; 18 May-27 October 1916 and 18 June-19 July 1917. His records show that he suffered a gunshot wound causing a compound fracture to his left thumb. Bailey was transferred to Class ‘Z’ Reserve in March 1919 and discharged on 31 March 1920. With copied service papers and m.i.c. - clasp not confirmed. With cap badge added for display purposes.
