India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier (1473 Pte. J. Creese, 7th Hussars) nearly extremely fine

Joseph Creese was born in the Parish of Stoke, near Yeovil, Somerset. A Printer by occupation, he attested for the 7th Hussars at Manchester on 29 June 1855, aged 21 years. With the unit he served over 12 years in the East Indies. Was promoted to Corporal in February 1858 and Sergeant in April 1859 but was reduced to Private in August 1863 on charges of being drunk. He was promoted to Corporal once more in August 1866 and appointed Sergeant Cook in April 1872. Awarded the above I.G.S. Medal for service in the Shabkadar campaign, 1863-64; the Indian Mutiny Medal with clasp Lucknow and the Army L.S. & G.C. As Sergeant Cook he was discharged at Manchester on 19 June 1876 having completed his second period of service. With copied service papers and roll extract.
