£180-220

Elijah Johnstone (variously spelt) from Siddington, a Labourer, enlisted in the 46th Regiment on 20 October 1852. He sailed for the Crimea with the main body of the regiment and landed at Balaklava on 8 November 1854. He died of diarrhoea, 28 March 1855. With some copied research, including letter extracts in which Johnstone is mentioned -

‘I am happy to say that I have found out that one “Elijah Johnson” (sic) of Bolland’s friends is not yet dead: he is sick at Scutari, and I will try at once and get him his parcel somehow when I can. ....’ (ref. Captain G. F. Dallas, letter, 24-26 January, 1855).
