Albert Taylor was born in Cheveley, Berkshire, c.1869. A Harness Maker by occupation, he attested for the Army Service Corps at Reading on 29 March 1887, aged 18 years, 1 month. Promoted to Corporal in August 1891 and appointed Corporal Collar Maker in March 1894. Promoted to Serjeant Collar Maker in May 1899. Served in Natal, July 1899-July 1902 and then Somaliland, July 1903-July 1904. Promoted to Saddler Staff Serjeant in April 1904 and Saddler Quartermaster-Serjeant in April 1906. Albert Taylor took his discharge on 28 March 1908. In 1911 he was married and was employed as a ‘Beer Seller’ at the ‘Bird in Hand’, Swallowfield, Berkshire.
