Private Robert Griffen, 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 16 August 1914. Served as part of the 15th Infantry Brigade, 5th Division, in Smith-Dorrien’s II Army Corps. Heavily engaged at Mons and the 1st Battle of Ypres. Served at Givenchy, 14 October 1914. With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
