A Great War M.C. group of three awarded to Second Lieutenant F. Walker, Lancashire Fusiliers

Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse inscribed, ‘2nd Lieut. F. Walker, Lanc. Fus., Jan. 26th 1918’; British War and Victory Medals, with small M.I.D. oakleaves (2 Lieut.) some contact marks, very fine (3) £750-850

M.C. London Gazette 4 March 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He twice led patrols under heavy fire through the enemy front line posts and located and reconnoitred the enemy second line, which was strongly held. On several other occasions he gained valuable information by reconnoitring the enemy’s position often under most difficult conditions. He showed splendid courage and initiative.’

M.I.D. not confirmed.

2nd Lieutenant F. Walker of the 1/7th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers embodied at Cross Lane, Salford on 4 August 1914. This battalion served in the Middle East, 25 September 1914-2 March 1917, when it left Egypt for Marseilles. 2nd Lieutenant Walker earned his M.C. by leading patrols, under heavy fire, through the enemy’s front line, near Cambrin, N.E. France, on 26 January and 1 February 1918.
