Four: Sergeant D. G. Street, South African Forces, wounded and captured at Sidi Rezegh, 23 November 1941

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War and Africa Service Medals, all officially impressed (78586 D. G. Street) mounted as worn; with a South African Red Cross Society Medal, of the Northern Rhodesia Chamber of Mines, reverse inscribed, ‘D. G. Street’, 28mm., bronze and enamel, with brooch bar inscribed, ‘1955’

Denis Gordon Street was born in Boksburg, South Africa on 5 October 1918. Employed in the Mining Industry, he attested for the Volunteer Units of the Union Defence Force on 10 May 1940, aged 21 years, 7 months. As a Sergeant with the 3rd T.S., he was reported wounded and was captured at Sidi Rezergh on 23 November 1941. Released at the end of the war, he was discharged on 23 August 1945. With copied service papers.

His brother, Air Corporal Eric George Street, No. 40 Squadron, South African Air Force, died on 29 August 1943, aged 19 years. His name is recorded in the Syracuse War Cemetery, Sicily. He was the son of Henry F. and Evelyn Street, of Pretoria, Transvaal.
