Samuel Wylie was born in Shankhill, Belfast. A Carter by occupation, he attested for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Belfast on 30 December 1895, aged 19 years, 10 months. Served in South Africa, November 1899-January 1903. Transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1903 and discharged on 29 December 1907. With copied service papers which states he was wounded in action near the Tugela River, 15 December 1899 - not listed as such in published casualty roll.
