William McConnachie was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire and enlisted at Aberdeen. He initially served as a Private in the Scottish Horse. Latterly serving as a Private in the 14th (Fife and Forfar Yeomanry) Battalion Royal Highlanders, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 10 September 1918, aged 20 years. He was buried in the St. Emilie Valley Cemetery, Villers-Faucon, Somme, France. He was the son of William and Annie Rhind McConnachie of 54 Bogie Street, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
