Samuel Charles Lindsey was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. A Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the K.R.R.C. at London on 9 July 1913, aged 18 years, 3 months. With them he served with the B.E.F. in France, 12 August 1914-6 October 1918 and 22 October 1918-26 May 1919. He later served on the Rhine, March 1922-January 1925. For his wartime services he was awarded the 1914 Star trio of medals. Additionally he was awarded the Panama Medal of Solidarity 1917-18. This was one of only 67 medals awarded by Panama to British recipients. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 19312. Lindsey attained the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 in 1931 and served as R.S.M. of the Queen’s Westminster Rifles during 1932-35. He took his discharge on 9 February 1936 on the termination of his period of engagement and prior to the Second World War served with the ‘B’ Specials in Northern Ireland. Recalled in September 1939, he served in the U.K. until 1945. Awarded the M.S.M. without annuity by the terms of Army Order No. 98 of 1953. He died in 1984. His services are listed on p.299 and his medals illustrated on plate 9 of The Annuity Meritorious Service Medal 1847-1953, by Ian McInnes.
