18th Century Tokens, SHROPSHIRE, Willey and Snedshill, John Wilkinson, Boulton’s mule Halfpenny, bust right, rev. mail & post coaches to all parts of england in wreath, edge plain, 12.53g/12h (DH Warwickshire 472 bis, this piece). Obverse rim knock at 4 o’clock (and corresponding on reverse), some light surface marks and has been cleaned in the past, otherwise about extremely fine and of the highest rarity; believed the only known specimen £600-800

Provenance: W.J. Noble Collection, Part I, Noble Numismatics Auction 58B (Melbourne), 7-8 July 1998, lot 1041 [from Spink 1987]; R.S. Brown Jr Collection, Part III, DNW Auction T10, 5 October 2011, lot 586 [from J.A. Bobbe August 1998]; with 1920s ticket marked ‘£8/10/-, unique’.

As the dies do not exhibit any perceptible rust, one may presume that this piece was almost certainly struck in 1795
