Iy.); India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Samana 1891, Waziristan 1894-5 (Capt., 2nd Punjab Infy.); India General Service 1895-1902, 3 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Samana 1897, Tirah 1897-98 (Lieut. Robert Ramsay Napier Sturt was born on 13 May 1852, son of Colonel W. M. N. Sturt, H.E.I.C.S. He was educated at Repton and joined the service in 1872. He served in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the capture of the Peiwar Kotal (Medal and clasp), and with the Mahsood Wuzeeree Expedition in 1881. He served with the Miranzi Expedition in 1891 with the 2nd Punjab Infantry (mentioned in despatches, medal with clasp); with the Zhob Valley Field Force in 1890; and with the Waziristan Expedition under Sir William Lockhart in 1894-95 in command of the 2nd Punjab Infantry (Clasp). He next served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 in command of the 2nd Punjab Infantry with the Kohat-Kurram Field Foce, including the engagement at the Ublan Pass on 27th August 1897 (mentioned in despatches); in the operations on the Samana in August and September 1897, including the defence of the Samana posts and the relief of Gulistan (mentioned in despatches); and with the Tirah Expeditionary Force, including the march down the Bara Valley (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, medal with three clasps). He was created a Companion of the Bath on 26 June 1902, and died on 9 April 1907.
