Private John Bycroft Saul, 1st Battalion Honourable Artillery Company, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 18 September 1914. Later commissioned into the Yorkshire Light Infantry Special Reserve and attached to the Machine Gun Corps. Was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. Later served as a Major on the N.W. Frontier of India. Additionally awarded the 1914 Star and India General Service Medal with clasp for Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919.
