Manby Wilson & Cie was founded by Aaron Manby (1776-1850) who, amongst other things, patented the steam engine for the PS Aaron Manby, the first iron ship to go to sea. With Daniel Wilson he established an engineering works at Charenton, near Paris, and they were among the first to obtain concessions to provide gas lighting for several streets in Paris
