In recording the coin for the Early Medieval Corpus (EMC 2012.0004), Dr Martin Allen made the following observation: ‘There is a coin of Lewes in the Fitzwilliam Museum with an erasure of one cross moline, and I suspect that your coin and EMC 2011.0097 might also be from a Sussex mint (the West Sussex find provenances provide some support for this suggestion). The reverse inscription of your find is unclear, but this might be a coin of the Lewes moneyer Willem. This is far from certain, however’
