A Great War M.M. awarded to Private H. Dalby, 8th Battalion Devonshire Regiment, killed in action, battle of the Somme, 6 September 1916

Harry Dalby enlisted in London. As a Private in the 8th Battalion Devonshire Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 31 December 1915. For his brave service with the battalion he was awarded the Military Medal. He was killed in action during the battle of the Somme, 6 September 1916, aged 19 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Dalby was the son of H. and Elizabeth Dalby, of 6 Navarino Grove, Hackney, London.
