Three: attributed to Sergeant (Pilot) H. J. W. Newnes, No. 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, killed in action, Germany, 30 August 1941

Sergeant (Pilot) Horace James William Newnes, No. 102 Squadron, R.A.F.V.R., was killed in action on 26 May 1943, aged 21 years. Newnes was serving as co-pilot of a Whitley of No. 102 Squadron that was targeting Frankfurt. His aircraft was shot down over Machen, Germany; three of the crew of five were killed. He was buried in the Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany. He was the son of Horace and Maud Newnes, of Sidcup, Kent.

With named condolence slip and medal forwarding box addressed to ‘Mr H. Newnes, 127, Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup, Kent.’
