India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Persia (Asst. Surgn. T. Carey, 64th Foot) dark toned, nearly very fine £800-1000
Surgeon Major Thomas Carey served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the storm and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, night attack and battle of Kooshab (Medal and Clasp). He also served in Bengal and N.W. Province in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 in medical charge of 500 men, being the head quarters of the Regiment; present in the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Onao Buseerut Gunge (first and second), Boorbeakechowkee, Bithoor, Mungarwar, Alumbagh, and first relief of Lucknow with Havelock’s Column; present in three sorties from the Residency, also at the defence of Cawnpore - severely wounded (Medal with Clasp, and a year’s service for Lucknow).
Carey afterwards served as surgeon successively with the 22nd Foot, 87th Foot and the 7th Foot. He retired on temporary half-pay on 6 February 1874.
