The original Great War memorial scroll to Private A. E. Goodfield, Wiltshire Regiment, who was killed in action at Hooge in September 1915, officially inscribed, ‘Pte. Albert Edward Goodfield, Wiltshire Regt.’, in old glazed wooden frame, good condition £30-50

Albert Edward Goodfield, who was born at Crudwell, Wiltshire, was living nearby at Malmesbury when he enlisted at Devizes. Subsequently posted to the 1st Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment, he arrived in France in mid-July 1915 and was killed in action at Hooge on 3 September 1915. The son of George and Prudence of Crudwell, and the husband of Kate Goodfield of Malmesbury, he was 37 years of age, has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate; sold with brief research, including war diary extracts.
