A Second War M.B.E. group of nine awarded to Captain J. N. Farrar, late Cheshire Regiment, British Vice-Consul in Patras, Greece, prior to the German invasion

The Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Civil) 2nd type; 1914-15 Star Trio (9435 Pte., Ches. R.) these three marked ‘Replacement’; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 8th Army; Italy Star; Defence & War Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf, mounted as worn, good very fine (9) £180-220

M.B.E. London Gazette 2 June 1943: ‘John Norman Farrar Esq., formerly British Vice-Consul in Patras.’

John Normond Farrar served with the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment in France from January 1915, and was discharged in February 1918. He was granted a Regular Army Emergency Commission as 2nd Lieutenant in May 1941; War Subsatntive Lieutenant, August 1941; Temporary Captain, May 1943. His original Great War medals were lost during the hurried departure from Patras at the time of the German invasion there. His M.I.D. has not been confirmed.
