Royal Humane Society Case No. 43,649: ‘On the afternoon of the 17th August, 1917, two soldiers were bathing in the sea on the French coast and got into difficulty in 10 feet of water. Lieut. R. H. D’Elboux, Second Lieut. S. A. N. Ward, and Pte. H. Bishop, North Lancashire Regt., went in and were successful in saving them.’ Bronze Medal to each.
