Virgin Islands – Double Island issues, Martinique-Tortola, Quarter-Dollars (4), Martinique ‘Mocos’, c. 1797, cut quarter segments of Spanish-American 8 Réales, with crenated edges, later countermarked tirtila raised within a shaped indent (Prid. 34; Pridmore, SNC September 1974, type II [Sale lot 226]), as follows: 6.53g/100.7gr, countermark on rev.; 6.68g/103.0gr, countermark on obv.; 6.27g/96.7gr, countermark on rev., coin with crenated edges on opposite sides, indicating a contemporary forgery; 6.04g/93.2gr, countermark on obv., coin with crenated edges on opposite sides, indicating a contemporary forgery [4].
